Silent Knight (Anonymous Charity and Mentoring Program)

SILENT KNIGHT is the story of one man's effort to make a difference in his community. It is a story of love, compassion, mentoring and dignity. The author weaves a delicate message of service to others with a beautiful love story that captures your heart. You will cry, laugh and wonder at the simplicity and beauty of the SILENT KNIGHT. It is a story for all ages.

SILENT KNIGHT is the first book in a trilogy centered on the life and legacy of Sir Donald Wilhelm Peterson, a fictitious retired Army colonel and Knight Templar. SILENT KNIGHT is a mixture of fact and fiction... the charity is real and many elements of the story have been derived from the author's experiences and persons he has known.

Perhaps you can become a SILENT KNIGHT. If you have the desire, passion, caring soul, respect and dignity of character represented by this story, you too can make a difference. Read this book and ask yourself, "WHY NOT?"

The United Nations Association – UK

The United Nations Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UNA-UK) is the leading independent authority on the UN in the UK. Because we are independent of the UN system and receive no funding from it, we can also be critical of its decisions and activities when we need to be, and can call for the Organisation to be reformed so that it is better equipped to fulfill its fundamental functions: to maintain international peace and security, to promote development and to uphold human rights around the world.

We are proud to be a UK-wide membership organisation encompassing individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds and interests. Through the work of our staff, volunteers and members, we campaign and educate to promote the principles of the UN Charter and to support the work of the UN and its agencies.

UNA-UK head office in London provides policy expertise to support the advocacy work of UNA-UK members. It maintains an ongoing dialogue with UK government ministers, parliamentarians and the media on issues relating to the UN. UNA-UK wants to promote multilateralism and adherence to international law through four policy programmes:

- Implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals
- Peace, security and disarmament
- Human rights and humanitarian affairs
- UN reform

Education lies at the heart of our work. Only through education, public awareness and pressure can effective, lasting change be achieved. To this end UNA-UK provides support and materials for those interested in organising Model UN events and provides information on overseas study tours for people wanting to develop their knowledge of the UN system and activities.

UNA-UK has a very active youth and student programme. UNYSA is a network of university groups, schools and individual members across the UK who exchange ideas and organise events to promote the work of the UN among young people.

UNA-UK connects with its membership through head office, as well as through our regional and local branch structure. You can support your local branch and play a full part in our work in your local community. All members:

• receive a copy of our quarterly magazine New World, as well as other briefings and publications;
• can take part in our Urgent Action Network, responding to pressing issues; and
• can get involved in and support UNA-UK's many other activities.

Glasgow Homeless Partnership (Silent Knight Meal Vouchers to the homeless)

The Glasgow Homeless Partnership was established in August 2001.  The Partnership, which is made up of social work, the NHS and voluntary organisations, is responsible for planning and developing services for homeless people.  A key objective is to oversee a major initiative to close the city’s remaining homeless hostels and transfer residents into a range of alternative accommodation which better suits their needs.  Around £50million is being invested in the hostel closure and resettlement programme over a three year period.  Other services provided by the Homeless Partnership include the Homeless Addiction Team (based at Bell St) and the Homeless Families Service (based at the Hamish Allen Centre).  Both run clinics at Hunter Street Health Centre and a wide range of community and hostel based venues across the city. The Homeless Addiction Team is made up of health and social work staff who offer treatment, support and education to help homeless people tackle their alcohol and drug addiction problems.  Clinics are held at a variety of venues throughout Glasgow. The Homeless Families Service, which offers support, advice and practical assistance to families, is based at the Hamish Allen Centre.  The service is staffed by a part time consultant GP, 4 health visitors, staff nurse, nursery nurse and admin support.  The Assessment and Diversion Team (who provide support to people who are homeless for the first time) are based at Clyde Place.

Fife Community Offroad Motorcycle Club (Support and Sponsorship)

FCOMC was setup in February 2004 to provide a safe and supervised environment for Youth Motocross and Quad ATV use as well as trying to discourage the use of these vehicles on private or public roads or walkways.

Fife Community Offroad Motorcycle Club secured land at the Cardenbarns Farm, Cardenden and has developed the land into a Motocross and Quad Track for all ages.

In May 2004 FCOMC became an affiliated member of the Scottish Auto Cycle Union.  The SACU is the governing body in Scotland and the FCOMC was issued with a Track Safety Certificate and Insurance.  FCOMC is also working with the Forestry Commission to reduce the illegal motorbike activity throughout the wooded areas.
